Our congregation believes
that God calls each of us to specific ministries based on
gifts, opportunities, and the needs of our community and our
world. We work both with the wider church and in our own mission
groups. Mission groups are open to all who would like to participate.
New mission groups can be started as the Spirit moves.
The Mission to the Poor and Hungry serves meals to the residents
of the Beth El Center in town and plans responses to the problems
of the poor and hungry in our community and beyond. Woodmont
UCC is a founding church of the Beth El Center which houses
a shelter and soup kitchen.

Sunshine Care Network visits people who are shut-ins
either in their own homes or in nursing homes. The volunteers
are often accompanied by cards made by the children of the
church or baskets of goodies made by church members during
the holidays.
In addition to
these missions, our church has also we have sponsored several
"Lost Boys" from the Sudan as they have resettled
in West Haven. The young men fled their homeland and "wandered"
for years seeking safety, food and shelter after having
lost their families and their homes. Members of Woodmont
UCC helped prepare their apartment and welcome them.
We also participate
in a Korean Partnership Mission - exploring the unity we
know in Christ and the difference in our unique cultures.

Come on inside
Faith for Our Everyday Lives
| For more than 100 years, we have sought
to glorify God’s name in worship and through mission. Our
church was started in 1885 by 15 people and has always been
a small intimate community of Christians. |
Worship
| We are an Open and Affirming Congregation. Worship is the center of our life together.
We seek to make our worship services meaningful for people
of all ages. We express our praise and explore the word
of God with music, drama and dance. Choir, and a contemporary
Christian group - the Worshiping Musicians are just some of the opportunities for us
to share our gifts in worship. |
Prayer and Education for Adults
| We support the spiritual development
of our Adult members with a variety of programs. Bible Study on Thursday mornings at 11am
and the first and third Thursday evenings at 7pm.
Retreats, weekly Lenten Programs, and Adult Forums
are held throughout the year and provide an opportunity
to faithfully examine current issues and topics of interest |
Church School
| During the school year, children in kindergarten
through grade seven are invited to attend Church School
exploring the same Scriptures heard in worship in the classroom
according to the needs of each learning level. On Communion
Sundays, children rejoin their families in worship and are
welcome at the Communion table. |
Nursery Child Care
| Child care is offered during the morning
worship service for infants through age 4 by a professional
child caregiver. Through songs, stories, crafts, and play,
young children experience God’s love in a caring and safe
setting. Young children are also welcome in worship with
their parents. |
Youth Group & Confirmation
| Youth events throughout the year include ice skating,
a summer amusement park outing, campout, lock-in and our annual Easter
Sunday Pancake Breakfast hosted by the youth. During a Confirmation year, classes
are offered for high school aged youth. These classes strive
to give each candidate the information they need to decide
if they wish to be confirmed. The program often includes
a lock-in, mission trip, weekly class, and a relation-ship
with a mentor from the church. |
Fun and Fellowship
| An Advent Workshop, Epiphany Party, Palm
Sunday Potluck, A Walk Through Holy Week, Musicfest, our
Summer Picnic, Miniature Golf Tournaments all offer fellowship
and fun for all ages. |
