BETH-EL CENTER www.bethelmilford.org

The WUCC is one of several area ministries that supports efforts of The Beth-El Center. The mission of Milford's local homeless shelter is to continuously strive to alleviate homelessness and hunger through shelter, support services, advocacy, and community based education.

COVENANT TO CARE: ADOPT A SOCIAL WORKER PROGRAM  www.covenanttocare.org

The WUCC partners with a dedicated Connecticut social worker in an effort to provide the necessary and special items for all of the children in that social worker’s caseload. This augments the provisions of the State, often assuring greater stability in the life of a child

MILFORD BACK-PACK

www.salvationarmyusa.org

We proudly support Milford's Youth and Family Services division of The Salvation Army. Their mission purchases 400 backpacks and works with the Board of Education to identify students who are unable to purchase back-to-school supplies on their own.  The WUCC enthusiastically participates in this program to equip children with all the materials they need for a successful school year.

MILFORD PASTORAL COUNSELING CENTER   www.thecounselingcenters.org

Some of the areas of concern handled are depression, anxiety, mental/physical abuse, recovery from substance abuse, adolescent anxiety, marital/adolescent/family conflicts, divorce, family of origin issues, gay/lesbian issues, ACOA issues, spirituality, stress management, conflict resolution, forgiveness, enrichment, career concerns, communication skills, sexual concerns, enhancing intimacy, pre-marital counseling, and loss and grief support.
Our mission is to provide pastoral counseling and psychotherapy services regardless of race, religion, or ability to pay.

We are members of the Milford Pastoral Counseling Center.  This organization which offers counseling and psychotherapy sessions to individuals, couples, and families has been in existence for over 30 years.  The definition of Pastoral Counseling is the professional therapeutic discipline helping people to apply the hope and wisdom of Biblical Faith to the many difficult and painful problems people face.

SUNDAY SCHOOL MISSION PROJECTS

Our Sunday school children and Youth Group are actively engaged in various mission projects throughout the year.  Their efforts in such projects as The Heifer Project (www.heifer.org) help to help to shape the world in which they live in.

MATTHEW 25 EMPTY PILL BOTTLE RECYCLING

In developing countries, medicines—when actually obtainable—are often dispensed into hands, pockets, leaves or any other available container. Matthew 25 Ministries accepts donations of basic medical supplies such as empty pill bottles to help improve health care quality in developing nations. Donations of clean, unlabeled pill bottles help the poorest of the poor in many ways: Medicine can be distributed in sterile containers. Pill bottles that are not appropriate for shipping are recycled for cash that goes towards Matthew 25:Ministries’ programs.

ALTERNATIVE GIFT FAIR   www.altgifts.org

Unique gifting options are provided for the community at the WUCC's Holiday Bazaar in December.  Gifts from SERV and Heifer International are sold as well as handcrafted items from poorer countries and/or women’s co-ops around the globe ensuring that crafters received fair prices for their goods.

CHEYENNE RIVER SIOUX RESERVATION PROJECT www.simplysmiles.org

This mission is designed to help a Native American tribe rich in history and poor in hope. There is so little opportunity in the life of the Cheyenne that the dream of a bright future is nearly impossible to achieve.  The WUCC Youth Group will create moments of joy in the lives of children.  These small stepping stones put in place may help them to believe that beyond today lies possibility.

“Let us put our minds together and see what life we can make for our children.” ~Sitting Bull

WE WAGE PEACE

www.iwagepeace.org

IWagePeace is a non-for-profit Connecticut based organization that inspires and educates Americans about peacemaking in the Middle East through film, creative gatherings and public displays of art.  In July 2012 the WUCC supported the efforts of iwagepeace.org by participating in a peace march in New Haven, CT.

SUNSHINE CARE NETWORK In a busy, high tech world we sometimes lose sight of the importance to provide a personal touch to those we know and love. The mission of the Sunshine Care Network is to stay in touch and lovingly support each other by remembering birthdays, expressing sympathy, sending get well wishes. We also provide meals to families and persons shut-in from the outside world struggling with life's difficulties. By receiving a home cooked meal, a birthday card in the mail, or even a holiday gift basket we can lighten their burdens and brighten their days.
